The Center for Women's Health is a fully integrated Holistic Health Center in Darien, CT, providing comprehensive, state of the art care for women and their families. Whether women are looking for traditional medical care or are seeking advice on Holistic Medicine, the Center for Women's Health provides a supportive environment where all treatment options are discussed responsibly and with a clear understanding of the strengths, as well as the limitations, of the scientific literature.
Women come to the CWH seeking care that respects the technology of biomedicine as well as the history of ancient healing traditions. This approach serves as the foundation of our belief system about health and illness, and has resulted in the establishment of certain "specialty areas" where we have achieved dramatic clinical success. These areas include, but certainly are not limited to: an individualized approach to menopause and the use of natural hormones, treatment of uterine fibroids without the need for hysterectomy, a comprehensive approach to cancer care involving the latest nutritional and supplement recommendations, and a conscious approach to pregnancy and childbirth that teaches techniques to decrease both the pain of labor and the likelihood of cesarean section.
The CWH was founded in 1996 by Joel M. Evans, M.D., a board-certified OB/GYN, in response to his personal observations on the successes of "alternative" treatments. After many years of study, attending conferences, and working with leaders in the field, Dr. Evans has now achieved a level of proficiency in Holistic medicine that is unmatched in Fairfield County. He is on the faculty of The Center for Mind/Body Medicine in Washington D.C., for whom he teaches at basic and advanced trainings for health professionals. He has contributed to a renowned text on herbs and cancer and has helped design a study on herbs for a major medical center. Dr. Evans is also a frequent lecturer on Holistic Medicine, lecturing to both physicians and the general public. He was an invited guest at the swearing in of the White House Commission on Complementary and Alternative Medicine Policy. In addition, Dr. Evans was recently certified as a Founding Diplomate of the American Board of Holistic Medicine, and is the only physician in Connecticut to be board-certified in both OB/GYN and Holistic Medicine.
The Center for Women's Health serves as a model for the delivery of health care in the 21st century.
