Our Staff Joel M. Evans, M.D. Joel M. Evans, M.D. is the Founder and Director of The Center for Women’s Health, an Assistant Clinical Professor of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Women’s Health at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, and a member of the faculty of The Center for Mind/Body Medicine and the Institute for Functional Medicine. He is a nationally recognized wellness expert, educator, author and physician, specializing in women’s health, breast cancer prevention, nutrition, mind/body medicine and spirituality. In January of 2001 he was honored as a Founding Diplomate of the American Board of Holistic Medicine, and is recognized as the first physician in Connecticut to be Board Certified in both Holistic Medicine and Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr. Evans helped create a clinical study at Columbia University Medical Center on the use of the herb black cohosh in breast cancer, which was presented at the 2001 Annual Meeting of the American Society of Clinical Oncologists and later published in their journal. He also serves a consultant to Metagenics Inc. as a member of their Scientific Advisory Board. He has a special interest in providing service to those affected by the tragedies of war and terrorism, and has worked with the F.D.N.Y. to help NYC firefighters handle the many stresses caused by 9/11. Dr. Evans also participated in a Mind/Body Mission to Macedonia in 1999, where he traveled to United Nations refugee camps immediately after the NATO bombing to help Kosavar refugees heal their wounds of war. Through his affiliation with the Center for Mind/Body Medicine, he is currently working with the U.S. Military and the Department of Defense to teach them how mind/body/spirit medicine can be used to help in the healing of our soldiers returning from Iraq and Afghanistan. Having pursued studies in spirituality, metaphysics, and personal transformation for many years, Dr. Evans has recently created a core curriculum designed to share ancient spiritual wisdom with others in order to help bring health and happiness into their lives. Monique Class, MS, CS, APRN Monique Class M.S., A.P.R.N, B.C. is a certified Family Nurse Practitioner, Clinical Nurse Specialist in Holistic Health, and wellness educator at The Center for Women's A sought-after teacher in the fields of holistic health and nursing, Monique is an adjunct professor at The College of New Rochelle Graduate School of Nursing, a clinical instructor for Yale Graduate School of Nursing, a senior faculty member of the Center for Mind/Body Medicine in Washington DC, and a faculty member for the Institute for Functional Medicine. With extensive training and clinical experience in many therapeutic approaches including nutrition and mind-body therapies, Monique is also certified by the Psychosynthesis Institute in Imagery and is currently completing her training in Foundations in Herbal Medicine. She received her degree as a Clinical Nurse Specialist and her post-masters as a Family Nurse Practitioner at the College of New Rochelle and her Bachelors of Science in Nursing from The University of Virginia. For Monique Class' Currivulum Vitae, click here. Dr. Reed Wang Dr. Reed Wang first practiced acupuncture more than 30 years ago, even before his formal training in western medicine. He has gained extensive experience by the influence of his family tradition which started with his grandparents and long term apprenticeship. After he became a physician, he continued to combine acupuncture and herbal medicine with his western practice. “The more as I matured as a doctor, the more I came to value and appreciate the natural approach of the traditional Chinese medicine.” Chinese medicine views the human body as a whole, rather than a collection of individual organs. The goal of the Traditional Chinese Medicine is to facilitate the best possible health for the entire human body- going beyond being disease-free to perfect and adjust any imbalances. In this way, Chinese Medicine seeks to prevent disease from occurring at all. Dr. Wang is a licensed acupuncturist (CT, NY, NJ, and RI) and national board (NCCAOM) certified herbologist. In addition to pain management his specialty is women’s health. As such, he is experienced in treating peri-menopausal syndrome, PMS, and other menstrual disorders, as well as infertility (for men and women), endometriosis, mild depression, chronic fatigue syndrome, supportive treatment for cancer patients who undergo chemotherapy or radiotherapy and other related disorders. Dr. Wang has decided to close his practice in New York City and relocate to Connecticut to work with Dr. Evans in the Center for Women’s Health in Stamford. Sheldon Lewis Sheldon Lewis teaches stress-management skills and med At the Center for Women’s Health, he is available to work with individuals and families to teach them skills to help manage their own—and their children’s stress. A longtime meditator and meditation teacher, Sheldon completed the Center for Mind-Body Medicine’s Professional and Advanced Training programs in Mind-Body Medicine. A pioneering journalist in the fields of mind-body and integrative medicine, he was editor of the journal Advances in Mind-Body Medicine and a contributing editor for Spirituality & Health magazine. He is co-author of the books The Human Side of Cancer (with Jimmie C. Holland, M.D.) and Stress-Proofing Your Child (with Sheila K. Lewis). Our Office Staff Having the right staff is of fundamental importance to the Center for Women’s Health. Every staff member believes in the power and possibility that each interaction can have in the healing process of our patients. Their commitment to always doing the best they can for our patients is a priority and is reflected in everything they do. We feel blessed to have such a caring and compassionate staff, and judging from the compliments we receive, are confident our patients feel the same way. Front Office Staff - Mary Kate (MK) Pappolla manages the front office and is in charge of most administrative functions, including insurance billing. Dawn Harrick is our full time receptionist. Teresa Rough is responsible for accounts payable and bookkeeping. Karen Harrick is our part time file clerk. Our Clinical Support Staff - Edyta Luckasiak, R.N, our registered nurse, is in charge of nursing functions. Edyta returns to the Center for Women’s Health after working as a medical assistant with us for many years. We couldn’t be happier that Edyta has chosen to come back to work with us now that she has earned her Registered Nurse degree. Dawn Bria and Nicole Landry assist Edyta with the nursing duties at the Center. Dawn, a medical assistant, has been with Dr. Evans in many different roles since he first started practice in Stamford over 20 years ago and he fully expects her to be with him for the next twenty years. Nicole, a new nursing school graduate, is a rising star whose role is currently expanding to assist Monique Class, A.P.R.N. with her patients. |
